Paul said in 1 Corinthians 14:5, “I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.”
Paul wanted everyone to speak in tongues, not so much for them to speak in tongues, but because if everyone spoke in tongues, it meant that everyone was walking with the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit would visit with God’s people in the Old Testament, but He didn’t stay with them. But, since Pentecost, the Holy Spirit lives within every believer completely and wholly. If you have accepted Christ, you have as much of the Holy Spirit in you right now as the day you accepted Christ. But, do you feel Him like you did the day you accepted Christ? Loved ones, if you do not feel the Holy Spirit as strongly right now as you did the day you ran down the aisle to accept Christ, it’s not because the Holy Spirit has moved away from you; it’s because you have moved away from Him!
2 Timothy 2:11-13 states, “Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.”
Even if we have moved away from God, God is faithful. He can’t disown himself. Even if we are going through the motions of our faith without allowing ourselves to feel our faith, God is faithful.
The Holy Spirit gifts some with the ability to speak in God’s language, but my prayer for each of you is that you begin hearing God’s language. That you start to listen to what the Holy Spirit is saying to you and then act on what you hear.
