Psalm 27:13–14

David expresses confidence that he will see the goodness of God even though his present circumstances give him reasons to be afraid. He calls himself and others to wait for the Lord with courage. Waiting is not passive resignation. It is the choice to remain faithful when the answer has not yet come and the road ahead is still unclear.

Devotional

Waiting can make even strong faith feel tired. We pray, watch, hope, and wonder how long it will be before something changes. The longer we wait, the easier it becomes to assume that nothing is happening. Sometimes the hardest part is not the problem itself. It is living with uncertainty while we have no idea what God is doing.

David understands that feeling. Psalm 27 contains confidence, but it is not the confidence of someone whose life is easy. He knows fear, opposition, and uncertainty. Yet he refuses to let the trouble in front of him erase what he knows about God. He remains confident that he will see the goodness of the Lord.

Sometimes that is what faith looks like. We cannot see the answer yet, but we choose to trust the character of the One we are waiting for. We may not understand the timing or know what the outcome will be, but we remember that God has been faithful before.

Waiting becomes especially difficult when we begin measuring God’s faithfulness by our timetable. We can assume that if God has not acted when we expected, God must not be acting at all. But some of God’s work happens where we cannot see it. Silence is not proof of absence, and delay does not mean God has forgotten us.

David tells us to take heart. Courage does not mean that fear disappears. Courage means we keep trusting while fear is present. There may be something you have been waiting on for longer than you expected. You may not know how it will turn out. You may not even know what to pray anymore. You do not have to know everything today. You can remember what you already know about God. He is good, He is faithful, and His grace is still at work.

Action

Take a few quiet minutes today and name one situation in which waiting has become difficult. Instead of asking only for a quick answer, ask God for courage to remain faithful while you wait. Then remember one previous season when God carried you through uncertainty and let that memory strengthen you.

Prayer

Faithful God, waiting is hard when I cannot see what You are doing. Forgive me for the times I confuse delay with absence or allow fear to tell me that You have forgotten me. Give me courage to trust Your goodness before I see the answer. Help me remember the ways Your grace has already carried me, and teach me to wait with hope rather than fear. Keep my heart close to You while I wait. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Thought for the Day

Waiting does not mean God has stopped working. I can trust God’s goodness even before I see what comes next.

Waiting becomes harder when we cannot see what God is doing. Psalm 27 reminds us that courage is not having every answer. It is trusting the goodness of God while we are still waiting.
