Gathered and Healed, a wide 16:9 photo-realistic image of warm hands gently wrapping a soft cloth around a cracked clay bowl on a wooden table, symbolizing God gathering the scattered and healing the brokenhearted in Psalm 147:2–3. The image includes the title Gathered and Healed and a paraphrase of Psalm 147:2–3.

Psalm 147:2–3 praises the Lord as the One who gathers the scattered and heals the brokenhearted. God does not overlook wounded people. He draws them near, binds their wounds, and restores what has been torn apart.

Devotional: Broken hearts do not always look broken from the outside. People can show up, answer messages, cook supper, go to work, sit in church, and still carry pain that feels heavy and private. Sometimes the hardest wounds are the ones nobody else can see.

Psalm 147 gives us a tender picture of God’s care. The Lord gathers the scattered and heals the brokenhearted. He does not simply call people from a distance and tell them to do better. He gathers. He heals. He binds wounds. Those are close, personal, gentle words.

That matters because shame often scatters us. Grief scatters us. Sin scatters us. Disappointment scatters us. We pull back from people, from community, and sometimes even from God. We may tell ourselves we are too much trouble or too wounded to be useful. But God’s grace does not leave His people scattered in the dust.

He gathers what has come apart.

This is not always quick work. Healing often takes time. God may use prayer, Scripture, worship, friendship, counseling, rest, and ordinary acts of care. But underneath every faithful means of healing is the steady mercy of God. He is not embarrassed by our wounds. He is not impatient with our pain. He is near to the brokenhearted because that is who He is.

The table of grace reminds us of the same truth. God does not wait for the wounded to heal themselves before He welcomes them. He draws them close and feeds them with mercy. He binds what sin, sorrow, and life in a broken world have torn open.

Maybe today you feel gathered. Maybe you still feel scattered. Either way, the Lord sees you. His hands are gentle. His mercy is strong. And no wound is hidden from His care.

Action: Place your hand over your heart and pray honestly about one wound you have been carrying. Ask God to begin or continue His healing work in you.

Prayer: Healing God, thank You for gathering the scattered and binding the brokenhearted. You know the wounds I carry, even the ones I rarely speak aloud. Meet me with Your mercy today. Help me trust that You are not ashamed of my pain and that I do not have to heal myself before coming to You. Gather what feels scattered in me. Restore what has been wounded. Make me gentle with others who are hurting too. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Thought for the Day: God does not shame the wounded; He gathers and heals them.

Psalm 147:2–3 reminds us that God gathers the scattered and heals the brokenhearted. That is a tender promise for anyone carrying grief, shame, exhaustion, disappointment, or pain that no one else can see.

We often think we need to pull ourselves together before we come to God. But Scripture shows us a Lord who gathers what has come apart. He does not stand at a distance from wounded people. He comes near with mercy strong enough to restore and gentle enough to bind what hurts.

Today, let this truth settle in your heart. You are not too wounded for God’s care. You are not too scattered for His grace.
