Hebrews 4:14-16 reminds believers that Jesus understands human weakness because He lived it Himself. As our great high priest, He invites us to approach God’s throne with confidence, not fear. In Christ, we find mercy and grace exactly when we need them most.

Devotional: There are moments when we hesitate to come to God. Not because we don’t believe, but because we feel unworthy, tired, or simply worn down by our own failures. Lent has a way of bringing those feelings to the surface. As we examine our hearts, we become more aware of our limits and shortcomings.

Hebrews speaks directly into that hesitation.

The writer tells us that Jesus knows what it is to be human. He understands weakness from the inside. He has felt hunger, weariness, temptation, and sorrow. Nothing we carry is unfamiliar to Him. Because of that, we are invited to approach God not with fear but with confidence.

That invitation changes everything.

So often we imagine that God grows impatient with us, especially when we stumble in the same places again and again. Hebrews says the opposite. Christ meets our need with mercy, not frustration. He offers grace precisely at the moments we need it most.

Lent reminds us how much we depend on that grace.

The disciples saw Jesus revealed in glory on the mountain, yet they still struggled and faltered on the road that followed. We do the same. Our faith is sincere, but it is also imperfect. Hebrews assures us that imperfection does not push us away from God. It draws us closer to His compassion.

Coming boldly to God does not mean coming proudly. It means coming honestly.

We don’t have to pretend to be stronger than we are. We simply bring our real selves to Christ and trust His mercy to meet us there. Grace is not a reward for getting things right. It is God’s gift for those who know they need help.

Every step of Lent is an invitation to draw nearer, not to stand at a distance. Jesus opens the door and welcomes us in.

Action: Think of one area where you have been hesitant to pray because you feel inadequate. Bring it honestly before God today and ask for His mercy and grace.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for understanding our weaknesses and meeting us with compassion. Help us come to You with honest hearts and confident trust. Give us the mercy and grace we need for this day. In Your holy name we pray, amen.

Thought for the Day: Grace is always available right when we need it.

Hebrews 4:14-16 reminds us that we never have to be afraid to come to God. Jesus understands our weaknesses and invites us to approach Him with confidence, trusting that mercy and grace are waiting for us in every need. Lent becomes a season of drawing closer, not pulling away.
